The day was a resounding success, and despite the wet spring, we had glorious sunshine as around 70 players from teams across Surrey took to the Course.
After a round we were treated to a remarkable tale of adventure and sheer determination from Adventurer Nick Hollis, who regaled us with death defying tales of his recent missions to Everest, the South Pole, and rowing the Atlantic.
Nick, (through his 721 organisation), raises funds for environmental causes with all of his missions, and clearly gets what we do at Surrey Wildlife Trust. He told us:
“I look at the younger generation and it concerns me they are very unlikely to have the same opportunities to enjoy the planet earth in the way that I have. My motivation is to do everything I can to ensure that they have a future, quality air to breath, food to eat. That we have farmlands and oceans that maintain their biodiversity.’’
When businesses and organisations work together to support Nature we can have a real impact, and we look forward to future events like these.
We want to extend a huge thank you Terry Tidbury from CREST awards for his time spent co-ordinating the event, and to our business supporters, who’s prize donations helped us raise an incredible £4,000 to support Nature in Surrey. Thank you to:
Surrey Cricket Club, Chessington World of Adventures, Christopher Smith Associates, Plant Passion, Vestel, Woking FC, Toyota, Guildford Shakespeare, Hampton Estates, Hedges and Hurdles, and our host- West Surrey Golf Club.
