About the reserve

Kindly donated to the Trust in 1987 by Mrs Underdown, in memory of her husband. The smallest of the Trust’s reserves, Underdown occupies a narrow but steeply sloping strip of land comprising small areas of gorse and heather on Greensand in a residential area of Shortheath, Farnham.

The topography of the site suggests that it was once part of a larger heath before being encapsulated by Farnham. Mixed woodland including mature Scots pine now grow at the top of the slope while scrub formations occupy the valley below.

The site is home to a range of invertebrates, including solitary wasps.
