Then we need you to apply to be a part of Surrey Wildlife Trust’s new “Youth Action Committee”!
What is the Youth Action Committee?
In March 2022 we ran a focus group with young people across Surrey, and the feedback they gave us was that they wanted more opportunities and activities to enjoy Surrey’s nature, and help Surrey’s wildlife, with other like-minded young people. This kicked off SWT’s “Wild Youth Movement” – we have developed a youth focussed newsletter, and have delivered a couple of events specifically for young people aged 16 – 30 years old.
To expand the impact of the Wild Youth Movement within Surrey we are recruiting for a team of 15 young people to form our first Youth Action Committee!
We would like this committee to:
- Give us advice on how we can better inform and engage young people with Surrey’s nature and the issues it is facing
- Educate and empower other young people on how they can take action for nature through the development of social media content and delivery of youth focussed events
- Help us to expand our youth network
- Help to write our monthly youth e-news
What will you gain from being a member of the Youth Action Committee?
- Develop personal skills which you can add to your CV or university application
- A chance to meet and socialise with other like-minded young people
- Meet and network with Surrey Wildlife Trust staff and other conservation professionals
- Gain vital skills in conservation, public speaking, event planning, teamwork, social media, writing & more.
- Access to a whole host of opportunities to help you grow as an individual while also helping nature and the planet.
How will it work?
By becoming a member of the youth action committee you will commit to:
- Attend a minimum of 4 – 6 meetings a year (a mix of in person and online)
- Represent young people’s voices and opinions
- Reach out to your local communities and engage them within our work
- Be kind and respect all values and opinions
- Be prepared to dedicate time to taking part in Youth action committee activities
- Be professional and at times respect confidentiality
- Be a member of the Youth action committee for 9-12 months
We do not expect knowledge of nature, climate or conservation to be on our Youth Action Committee - only the passion to learn and take part in activities to help nature.
We would like the committee to be as diverse as Surrey’s nature and welcome applications from anyone with a passion for nature and wildlife!
