Photography - How to see the Wood for the Trees
Event details
About the event
Within the landscape photography genre, woodland provides one of the greatest challenges. It's complex and diverse nature demands a variety of skills. However, living in the UK our landscapes are very largely populated with woodland and in particular Surrey, which is the English county with the greatest density of trees.
This course will examine what makes a successful composition in the ancient woodland environment of Nower Wood. The topics covered will be:
- Woodland composition
- Lighting
- Weather conditions
- Exposure and exposure bracketing
- Focus bracketing
Our photography courses cater to both the beginner and the improver. But we ask that the beginner delegate already have a practical working knowledge of their camera.
On this course, any camera with the ability to change the shutter and aperture settings will be suitable. However a DSLR with interchangeable lenses or Bridge cameras will offer more potential. Do bring any lenses that you have with you so that we can discuss their suitability for various subjects.
If you have one, bring along a tripod, as light levels can be quite low, particularly in woodland. Make sure you have a fully charged battery and plenty of space on your memory card to safely store your photographs.
Our Tutor: Eddie Hyde
Photography has captivated me since I was a small boy with a Kodak Brownie 127. I have explored a wide variety of photographic genres and styles over the years and this broad appreciation helps me as a Judge with the Surrey Photographic Association and now as a Distinctions assessor for the RPS.
I enjoy most genres of photography, but I tend to major in landscape, and I never feel more alive than when I am outdoors, anticipating the moment when the magic might happen: the light, weather and landscape combine to create art in front of your eyes, and you are there to capture it.
I have had images commended or shortlisted in the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition, the International Landscape Photographer of the Year, The Siena International Photography Awards, The Travel Photographer of the Year, British Photography Awards and The Epson Pano Awards. I am a major contributor of images to the National Trust properties locally and am widely published (Outdoor Photographer, Advanced Photographer, Black and White Photography, RPS publications etc).
And last but not least, I am a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.
