The golf club is committed to protecting Surrey’s nature and has worked with us in numerous ways to ensure that wildlife can thrive on their site- this includes supporting our heathland management project. This project has seen the club working in partnership with our Reserves team to selectively remove heather from Chobham Common to use on the golf course. Through removing selected portions, we can encourage regeneration and improve the overall quantity and biodiversity of the heathland.
In addition, the golf club has worked closely with our Ecology Services team to help with the careful management of their site. In 2022 and 2023, after completing various habitat surveys, our Ecology Services team were able to offer their expert knowledge and share ways to further support and protect the wildlife found on their lowland heathland and in their ponds.
This year, through their membership and with their continued support of our heathland management project, the club hopes to inform and inspire their employees and their 600 club members to take action for local nature.

"Our collaboration with SWT is aimed at enhancing biodiversity and ecology while preserving the essential heathland characteristics vital for the prosperity of our heather site. The invaluable advice and technical expertise provided by SWT have significantly contributed to our club's development and improved our trajectory over the coming decade. Through our partnership with SWT, we offer our members the opportunity to witness and engage in the remarkable conservation efforts underway, inspiring them to actively participate and contribute to the preservation of nature on our course."

We’re really excited that Woking Golf Club have decided to extend their membership with us for a further year, I am very conscious of the role sports clubs play in our community and Woking is a historic local club. I’m looking forward to engaging with staff in webinars and other sessions to spread awareness about what we can all do for nature.
